Setting up staff roles

Define the crew roles used across VanMan so you can assign the right employment role to each staff member.

Staff roles are the employment roles you assign to your crew — the job each person does on a move. You define them once under Settings → Staff Roles, and they then become the options you can pick from when adding staff and assigning crew to jobs.

Why roles matter

Setting up your roles first keeps the rest of your staff management tidy. When you add a staff member, you choose their role from the list you've defined here. When you build the crew for a job, those same roles help you see at a glance who does what. Getting them right up front means everything downstream lines up.

Define your roles

Open Staff Roles

Go to Settings → Staff Roles to see the crew roles already set up for your company.

Add the roles you use

Create a role for each type of crew member you employ — the employment roles that reflect how your team actually works on a job.

Assign roles as you go

Once your roles are saved, they appear as options whenever you add or edit a staff member and when you build a job's crew.

Staff roles are the employment roles you attach to crew members. They're separate from user roles like Admin, Operator and Driver, which control login access and are managed under Account & Billing.

Set up your staff roles before you start adding crew. With the list ready, adding staff members is faster and every record gets a consistent, correct role.
